The UFS Business School is firmly established as a leader in the provision of management and leadership programmes in the country, fully accredited by the Council for Higher Education (CHE), a member of the South African Association for Business Schools (SABSA),  Central and East European Management Development Association (CEEMAN), and the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB).  The Business School has been awarded 3 Palmes by Eduniversal and belongs in the 3rd League of the 1 000 Best Business Schools worldwide.

With the PhD programme, the school completes its menu of academic options. The PhD will be awarded with an endorsement of ‘Business Administration’.

CURRICULUM – NQF LEVEL 10 CREDITS 360

PhD students commence their studies in January of each year, with the closing date for application 15 September of the previous year.  A non-refundable application fee is payable on applying for the PhD.

Philosophiae Doctor in Business Administration – Admission and Entrance Requirements
  • A first degree or equivalent with an average of 65% for all the modules (credits must be at least 360 and the qualification should be at NQF level 7)
  • An MBA or equivalent master’s degree with an average of 65% for all the modules
  • At least 65% for Business Research Methods done on a master’s level
  • At least 65% for an expanded MBA or equivalent dissertation (minimum 60 credits) with a duration of at least one academic year
  • TALPS test (International students)

THREE POSSIBLE OUTCOMES WILL RESULT FROM THE SCREENING PROCESS:

1.  A letter to inform the applicant that he/she was successful.

2.  A letter to inform the applicant of partial compliance and what is still needed in order to qualify for     pre-application.

3.  A letter to inform the applicant that he/she was unsuccessful.

The candidate has a minimum of 24 months (2 years) to complete the PhD.  Thereafter the rules of the university apply.

Master of Business Administration

The course content of the UFS Business School MBA enhances and develops managers and leaders, broadly covering all aspects and challenges which managers and leaders might face in today’s ever-changing business environment. Graduates of our MBA programme will be able to compete in both the global economic and business environment.
MBA CURRICULUM – 221 CREDITS NQF LEVEL 9
A new group of students commence their studies in January or July each year.  Applications for the July 2016 intake close on 15 April 2016 and for the January intake on 30 September 2016.

ADMISSION AND ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS

  • At least 25 years of age
  • At least 3 years of relevant managerial experience/work experience
  • A four-year applicable Bachelor’s degree (NQF level 7 and comprising at least 360 credits)
  • A Postgraduate Diploma in Business Administration

Postgradute Diploma in Business Administration

The Postgraduate Diploma in Business Administration introduces a new phase in the academic offering of the UFS Business School. The PGDip in Business Administration provides a valuable articulation route to students with a first degree, planning to register for an MBA in future.

We’ve already exceeded our limit regarding PGDip applications for the January intake.
There is limited space left for the second-semester intake.

Bachelor of Management Leadership
A dynamic addition to the spectrum of management programmes on offer is the Bachelor of Management Leadership (BML) aimed at working adult learners. This qualification is based on experiential learning and the assessment and recognition of prior learning. The objective of the BML is to deliver a new generation of formally qualified and innovative managerial leaders equipped to excel in and add value to today’s corporate and business environment. The BML programme was developed in collaboration with the School for New Learning at De Paul University in Chicago.
BML Programme – NQF 7  MODES OF DELIVERY
1.  Face-to-face
The programme is offered on campus on a part-time basis.  Students attend classes on Friday
afternoons from 11:15 to 18:00

2.  On-line (one intake per year in July)
The Business School has an on-line option that will bring the learning right to your doorstep.
Except for the introductory Portfolio Development Course and a full-week contact session once
a year on campus, the BML programme is presented online

3.  Modular
Students attend classes on campus once a term for a full week

MINIMUM ADMISSION AND ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS

Over and above the rules regarding admission to this university, the following specific entrance requirements must be met:

  1. 23 years of age
  2. A permanent work appointment
  3. (a)  An endorsed senior certificate with at least 2 years’ working experience, or
    (b)  A senior certificate with at least 2 years’ working experience, or
    (c)  A grade 10 certificate with at least 5 years’ working experience, or
    (d)  A certificate with conditional exemption issued by the Matriculation Board, with at least 2 years’ working experience
    (e)  An equivalent qualification
  4. Proficiency in English
  5. Proficiency in Mathematics
  6. Adequate computer literacy

Students admitted to the BML programme in terms of 3(b), 3(c), 3(d), or 3(e), must complete an additional module, BMLB3710/BMLB3720.
When a student has successfully completed BMLB3710/BMLB3720, the university will apply for a certificate of exemption in terms of admission approved by the Senate of the university.

Admission tests must be written by all applicants. A review committee will consider all applications and a policy of limited enrolment will be practiced.

MINIMUM ADMISSION AND ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS FOR CANDIDATES WITH NATIONAL SENIOR CERTIFICATES OBTAINED FROM 2008

Over and above the general rules regarding admission to this university, the following specific entrance requirements must be met:

  1. 23 years of age
  2. A permanent work appointment
  3. (a)  A National Senior Certificate (NSC) or a National Certificate Vocational (NC (Vl)) with an AP score of at least 30 and a minimum of 2 years’ working experience, or
    (b)  A GET certificate with at least 10 years’ working experience, or
    (c)  An equivalent qualification
  4. Proficiency in English with a minimum achievement level of 4
  5. Proficiency in Mathematical Literacy with a minimum achievement level of 4
  6. Adequate computer literacy

Students admitted to the BML programme in terms of 3(b) and 3(c) above, must complete an additional module, BMLB3710/BMLB3720.
When a student has successfully completed BMLB3710/BMLB3720, the university will apply for a certificate of exemption in terms of admission approved by the Senate of the university.
